The Lodge of Fraternity No. 1418 is proud to be part of the United Grand Lodge of England’s (UGLE) Universities Scheme, a national initiative designed to introduce Freemasonry to students and young people in higher education.
We serve students, graduates, and staff at Teesside University and Durham University’s campus in Stockton-on-Tees, helping them discover the values and benefits of Freemasonry within a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment. As part of the Universities Scheme, we make it easier for younger members to join and thrive within the Craft by offering flexible meeting arrangements and a strong mentoring culture.
If you’re a student, graduate, or member of staff interested in discovering more about Freemasonry and how the University Scheme can support your journey, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
We’re very welcoming to masons who joined a lodge while at university elsewhere, but have graduated and have moved to this area.
Founded by UGLE in 2005, the Universities Scheme is a structured and accessible route into Freemasonry for university students and young professionals. With more than 85 Lodges across England and Wales, the scheme connects Freemasonry with academic life, offering students the opportunity to develop friendships, grow personally, and give back to their communities.
Lodge of Fraternity No. 1418 works in parallel with Universities Lodge No. 2352, which serves Durham University directly. While Universities Lodge covers the main Durham campus, Lodge of Fraternity focuses on students and staff at Teesside University and Durham University’s Stockton campus, helping build a strong Masonic presence across the North East.
Becoming a Freemason and joining a Universities Scheme Lodge couldn’t be easier – if you’re aged 18 and over and currently studying at University in England or Wales, all you need to do is follow the steps below.
