Bridging Counties: A Memorable Visit from Stockton to Yorkshire West Riding

On 15 October 2025, members of the Lodge of Fraternity 1418 from Stockton-on-Tees travelled to Otley to attend the regular meeting of Chevin Lodge 6848, within the Province of Yorkshire West Riding.
The visit was more than just a formal occasion—it was a celebration of shared values, friendship, and tradition.

The evening was honoured by the presence of Michael Shaw, Assistant Provincial Grand Master of the Durham Province, whose attendance highlighted the importance of the gathering and strengthened the bond between neighbouring provinces.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening came from W. Bro George Bird of Lodge of Fraternity 1418, who delivered a powerful and thought-provoking presentation titled “Freemasonry in Captivity.” With passion and eloquence, he painted vivid images of perseverance, unity, and hope during times of hardship. His words reminded everyone just how far we have come as an organisation—and how resilience and brotherhood can thrive even in the most difficult circumstances. The audience was captivated, and the applause spoke for itself.

The Worshipful Master of Chevin Lodge, W. Bro Dave Chapman, who is also a proud member of Lodge of Fraternity 1418, was delighted to welcome his friends and colleagues from Stockton. His genuine hospitality set the tone for the evening, and the warmth of his greeting was felt by all.

No visit would be complete without the festive board, where everyone gathered to dine, share stories, and enjoy one another’s company. The food was excellent, the atmosphere relaxed, and the conversation flowed with ease. We were received with open arms, and as the evening drew to a close, we exchanged farewells filled with goodwill and mutual respect.

As we travelled home to Stockton, we carried with us fond memories of fellowship, history, and heartfelt hospitality. It was a reminder that no matter the distance, the bonds we build through shared experiences will always bring us closer together.
