Lodge of Fraternity 1418 – Celebrates It’s 150th Anniversary

Project

Today marks a milestone in Masonic history as Lodge of Fraternity No. 1418 celebrates its 150th Anniversary, tracing its origins back to its consecration in 1873!

On 26 October 2023, the Lodge welcomed the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro John Paul Thompson, escorted by senior Provincial and UGLE officers. He was formally received and graciously accepted the gavel from the Worshipful Master, symbolising unity and continuity in the Craft.

Provincial Wardens and Past Grand Officer – including the Past Provincial Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master, Assistant Provincial Grand Masters, and other dignitaries—were saluted in due form, adding solemnity to this special occasion.

Lodge of Fraternity No. 1418 has proudly upheld its commitment to Integrity, Friendship, Respect, and Service since 1873. As it embarks on its next 150 years, the Lodge continues to champion fellowship, charitable outreach, and mentorship - particularly through its involvement in the Universities Scheme serving Teesside University and Durham’s Stockton campus.

Reflection, History & Forward‑Looking Vision

The Worshipful Master, along with the Wardens, Deacons, and Inner Guard, led a compelling presentation highlighting the Lodge’s evolution – from its founder members and wartime membership fluctuations to community and charitable contributions. The presentation also underscored the Lodge’s engagement with UGLE’s Universities Scheme, to attract younger members alongside its long-standing brethren

Charitable Tribute & Commemoration

In a gesture both symbolic and generous, the Lodge presented a donation of £1,418 – a nod to its number – to the Provincial Grand Master, split between the Masonic Charitable Foundation (£1,168) and the Durham Benevolence Fund (£250). In return, RW Bro Thompson presented the Worshipful Master with a signed, framed commemorative certificate from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham, marking the Lodge’s 150 years of service.

Fellowship & Keepsakes

Following formal proceedings, members and visitors enjoyed festive board fellowship. Each attendee received a commemorative booklet, diary, and pen marking the anniversary – a thoughtful reminder of the evening’s significance. RW Bro Thompson responded to the toast with gratitude, praising the Lodge’s century‑and‑a‑half of Masonic contribution to Durham Province.

Celebrating 150 years of brotherhood, service, and tradition - Lodge of Fraternity stands as a beacon of unity and purpose, lighting the way for generations to come.
